He was married to Sarah Josephine (Josephine) Nelson (daughter of Lars Nelson and Ann Anderson) on 25 Feb 1880 in Sarah's parent's residence near Newark, Kendall County, Illinois. Sarah Josephine (Josephine) Nelson was born on 19 Jul 1859 in Fox near Newark, Kendall County, Illinois. She died on 31 Dec 1944. She was buried in Radcliffe Cemetery, Radcliffe, Hardin County, Iowa. Martin Christian and Sarah Josephine (Josephine) Nelson had the following children:
