Know ye That Jesse Cox a Corporal of captain W. C. Parkers company third regiment of Rifles who was enlisted the thirteenth day of August eighteen hundred and fourteen to serve during the war, is hereby honorably discharged from the army of the United States, having faithfully served out eh full period of his enlistment. Said Jesse Cox was born in the County of Ashe in the State of North Carolina is about twenty three years of age, five feet eight 1/2 inches high, fair complexion, hazel eyes, dark hair, and by occupation, when enlisted, a farmer. | Sworn Declaration – State of North carolina Ashe County} On this the 27th day of august A D one thousand eight hundred and fifty two personaly appeared before me a justice of the peace in and for county and state aforesaid Jesse Cox aged sixty two years a resident of the county and state aforesaid who being duly sworn according to Law declares that he is the Identical Jesse Cox who was the 2d sergant in the company commanded by Capt Brannon in the 3d Rifle Regiment commanded by Col Hamilton in the war with Great Britian declared by the United States on the 12th day of June A D 1812 that he enlisted at the Town of Jefferson in the county of Ashe and state of N. carolina on or about the eleventh day of august A D one thousand eight hundred and fourteen for during the war and was mustered into service at the town of Charlotte in the county of Mecklenburg in the state of N. carolina on or about the fifteenth day of September A D one thousand eight hundred and fourteen and proceeded to camp bottoms Bridge eighteen miles below the city of Richmond in the state of Virginia and remained at the lst named place some time perhaps two months and then marched to Carlisle in the state of Pennsylvania since that he remained at Carlisle until the news of peace reached said place and served until the close of the war and was honorably discharged at Carlisle in the state of Pennsylvania on the twenty seventh day of March A D one thousand eight hundred and fifteen as will appear by his certificate of discharge filed at the city of washington in February A D 1851 and the muster rols of said company He makes this declaration for the purposes of attaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act of congress granting Bounty land to all the soldiers who enlisted in the service of the united states for during the War. Dear Sir We find on our Military records that you served as a Soldier in the war of 1812 between this Country and Great Britain, and that you were entitled to a grant of land of 160 acres. we are engaged in the settlement of these old land claims, and procure for the soldier or his heirs their interest in them if you wish your case attended to we shall be pleased act for you in the matter and procure the money for you there will be no outlay on your part we charge ten per cent on the amount we can get for you and do not take our fee till the money is secured to you let us hear from you as soon as Convenient — enclosed is our cirular and a return envelope Respectfully yours H De Graw & Co New York City |

| State of Virginia }SS County of Russell On this 11th day of March A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy one personally appeared before me J. C. Gent Clerk of the County Court of Russell County Va a court of record within and for the county and state aforesaid Jesse Cox aged eighty one years, a resident of the county of Russell State of Virginia who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is married, that is wifes name was Thursa Harper to whom he was married at Wilks county, North Carolina on the 27th day of July 1815 that he served the full period of sixty days in the military service of the United States in the war of 1812, that he is the identical Jesse Cox who enlisted in Captain Brannon's Company 3rd North Carolina Rifle Regiment [space left empty] Brigade [space left empty] Division at Ashe Co North Carolina on or about 12th day of August 1814 and was honorably dischared at Carlisle Pennsylvania (which was written and which discharge he delivered to the pay master general at the matropolis bank at Washington city and received from said paymaster a printed one in lieu there of) on or about the 27" day of March 1815 that he marched from Ash Co N.C. to Charlotte N.C. and from thence to Richmond Va and from thence to Carlisle Pa and there he went into winter quarters, that he held the office of third sergeant in said Company and that he has obtained a land warrant for 160 acres of land and that his discharge was left on file at Washington. That he at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States adhered to the cause of the enemies of the government giving them aid or comfort; or exercised the functions of any office what ever under any authority, or Pretended authority, in hostility to the United States, and that he will support the constitution of the United States, that he is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act; that he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States, under the provision of the act approved February 14" 1871, and he hereby constitutes and appoints with full power of substitution and revocation Henry A. Routh of Lebanon County of Russell State of Virginia his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued that his post office is at Lebanon County of Russell State of Virginia that his domicile or place of abode is twelve miles east of Lebanon Va. Redwine Joseph Webb Also personally appeared Joseph Webb, residing in Russell County State of Va and Roland R Redwine residing in Russell County State of Va persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit and who being by me duly sworn say: They were present and saw Jesse Cox the claimant sign his name to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with him that he is the identical person he represents himself to be; that at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did he adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Goverment, given them aid or comfort; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of the claim. | State of Virginia County of Russell{ SS. This day personally appeared before the undersigned Clerk of the County Court of the County and State aforesaid, Jesse Cox applicant for Survivors Pension No 17650 Act Feby 14th 1871, War 1812" who being duly sworn deposeth and saith, that he enlisted on the 12" day of August 1814 at Ash County in the State of North Carolina for five years or during the war by Capt Brannon a recruiting Officer, from thence he marched under Capt Brannon to a small town in North Carolina called Charlotte and there he was mustered into service under Lieut Wyly Gordon in the third Rifle Regt (enlisted troops) Commanded by Colonel Hamilton from thence he marched to "Camp bottom bridge" 18 miles below Richmond Va and from thence to Carlisle Penn and there they went into winter quarters, and remained there until he was discharged, and from thence he went to Washington City and received there a printed discharge which delivered to Thomas Calaway his agent and Attorney residing near Jefferson Ash County North Carolina to enable him to draw his Bounty land, and never received his discharge or Bounty land, although H. De Graw Co of the City of New York wrote him on the 25" of Sept 1856 that they would attend to the drawing of his Bounty land, and also wrote him on the 15 of December 1856 that his Patent had been sent him on the 9" day of October 1818 Mount Trial in Wilks County which Patent warrant he never received and cannot therefore give the number of said land warrant. The letters heretofore refered to are herewith attched marked "A" & "B". The said applicant further swears that it was through mistake of himself or Mr. H. A. Routh, who wrote out his former application for pension in this, that he stated that is service was rendered in Capt Brannons Company North Carolina Militia, instead of stating that he was merely enlisted by Capt Brannon as a recruiting officer, and afterwards served under Liet Wyly Gordon third Rifle Regt enlisted troops and not militia . Said Capt Brannon was with said troops but a short time, one Mr. Duffe was adjutant of said Regt. And further this deposant saith not. Jesse [his X mark] Cox. T.J. Hargis A. Routh. State of Virginia County of Russell to wit I J.C. Gent Clerk of the county court of the County and State aforesaid do hereby certify that the foregoing affidavit was taken, subscribed and sworn to before me by the said Jesse Cox, after the same had been read over and fully explained to him, who also produced communications marked "A" & "B" from H. De Graw & Co. at New York dated 25" Sept 1856 and 15" December 1856 hereto attached ad that I have no interest direct or indirect in the claim of the said Jesse Cox for Pension. Sir, Jesse Cox, late of Capt's Brandon & Parkers Companies 3rdU.S. Rifles war 1812 begs leave to state that in the year 1816 or 1817 he made application for bounty land under act of January 20" 1813 through Thomas Calaway his Atty of Ash Co. N.C. from which he heard nothing until Masters[?] H.De Graw & Co of the city of New York who wrote to him on the 15" day of December 1856 that his land had been long since granted him and the same mailed to him on the 9" of October 1818 at Mount Trial Wilks Co N.C. which he never received, The foregoing testimony is on file in the pension department No 17650, upon which his Pension has been settled and Certificate issued No 18640 Act Feby 14" 1871. He now asks to be informed if such a land warrant ever issued, He is informed by his atts that if he never recd his warrants nor had official information of its existence that he Can yet recover it, he is old & very needy and prays that the comr may give this his informal inquiry some attention and as in duty bound he will ever pray.
